I stopped in yesterday to see how work is tracking on our $6.3 million watermain renewal project for Dargaville.
It's a big job, replacing around 4.3km of pipe starting from Logan Street, across the Kaihu River near the State Highway 12 bridge, then along Beach Road, Day Street, Edward Street and Station Road to the water treatment plant. The pipes are an important part of the network delivering drinking water to homes and businesses across Dargaville.
Northern Pipe and Civil are the lead contractors for the project. With the crew wrapping up the first stage there is around 2.1km of new pipe already in the ground. They are now preparing for an interesting part of the project, tunnelling beneath the Kaihu River at a depth of around nine metres from the top of the bridge.
Great to get a look at the work first-hand and catch up with the crew doing the job.
