It's fantastic to see the ablution block at Pine Beach in Taharoa Domain upgraded and officially open along with Deputy Mayor Gordon Lambeth and Councillor Snow Tane.
Visitors told us the old facilities were no longer meeting expectations, and this project has given them a much-needed refresh.
The eight toilets and eight showers have been fully upgraded, with new fittings, plumbing and electrical services, new flooring and LED lighting, improved drainage and a fresh coat of paint. There's also been some important work behind the scenes, including upgrades to ageing wastewater infrastructure. The team also dealt with asbestos remediation and relocated the hot-water payment stations, all while keeping disruption to the campground to a minimum.
By upgrading the existing building rather than starting again, the project team were able to extend its life and create better facilities for the thousands of people who enjoy this special part of Kaipara.
Even better, the project was finished ahead of schedule and is ready to go for Labour Weekend. I’m looking forward to seeing campers and visitors enjoy the new facilities this summer.
A big thanks to KDC Manager of Project Delivery Bryan Hagan, external project manager Paul Andrew from Hoskin Group, main contractor NPM Construction Ltd, and Stevens Plumbing and Gas, Decon Ltd and C&C Electrical for their work on the refurbishment.
