It was a pleasure to open the first stage of the new woodland trail at McClean Park in Kaiwaka yesterday.
What was once an underused area is now a safer, welcoming place for locals and visitors to play, explore and connect with nature. I’m really pleased to see the privet and other noxious weeds finally removed.
A big thank you to:
Steve and Jo from Sheriff Building who built the trail
KDC Project Manager Joanne McFarlane for running the project
Kaiwaka Can Chairman David Wright, committee and members for continued work on improvements in Kaiwaka
Small Pukekos children and educators for contributing to the opening and trail activities
The trail will continue to grow over time, with future additions expected to include riverside planting, fencing along State Highway 1, wayfinding signs and art installations.
I encourage everyone to stop by and explore this great new addition to Kaiwaka.
