Mangawhai Road slip repair completion

Mangawhai Road is officially open following one of the most significant slip repair projects ever undertaken in Kaipara.

The full 24/7 closure between Coal Hill Road and Cames Road reflected the scale and complexity of the work required to restore this vital connection safely, after it suffered significant damage from Cyclone Gabrielle in February 2023. We are grateful to NZTA for the Cyclone Gabrielle 92% funding assistance rate contributed towards this project (our normal subsidy rate is 62%).

The extensive repairs - which included rebuilding the north side of the road from the bottom up - help to make this stretch of road more resilient during severe weather events, supporting both the Mangawhai community and the many other travellers who rely on this route every day.

Thanks to our contractors - the teams at CLL Service & Solutions and Geonexus, and everyone else involved in the planning, design and delivery of this project.

A special thank you to residents, businesses and road users for your patience and understanding while this work was carried out. We know the closure was disruptive, but it was necessary to deliver a long-term solution.
