Kaipara Education Project

There was an excellent turnout at the launch of the Kaipara Education Project at Dargaville Intermediate School this week.

The meeting, convened by Ian Margan of Mangawhai and chaired by Dargaville community leader and Warioa Ward Councillor Snow Tane, received a expertly prepared presentation from Professor Doug Sutton. Also in attendance were MP for Northland Grant McCallum, Deputy Mayor Gordon Lambeth, and Councillor Craig Jepson.

Professor Sutton described from his in-depth knowledge and experience how an education facility could be established in Dargaville focused on the employment needs of the local and surrounding area, supporting and creating economic development, and allowing young locals to build prosperous lives whilst remaining in the Kaipara.

The initiative would be a grass roots project, by the community for the community, with Professor Sutton providing his expertise.

I have set up an email address as an initial point of contact if anyone wants to connect and contribute as the initiative starts out. It is educationproject@kaipara.govt.nz.

A bit more information is set out as attached from last week's article in the Kaipara Lifestyler.

Thanks to everyone who came along to support the initiative - together we can make this happen!
