Last week I attended the commencement of works for a major upgrade to Dargaville's drinking water mains.
Approximately 4.3 kilometres of water mains will be replaced between the water treatment plant and Logan Street, via Station Road, Edward Street, Day Street, Beach Road and the Kaihu River bridge on State Highway 12.
This is part of council's ongoing focus on delivering the essential services communities rely on every day, and providing safe and reliable drinking water is one of our core responsibilities.
Most people will never see these pipes, but they rely on them every day. Replacing ageing watermains now means fewer problems down the track and a more dependable water supply for years to come.
Work is expected to finish in late June 2027 and will be carried out in stages to keep roads open as much as possible. Temporary traffic management will be in place, and at times sections of Logan Street, Beach Road, Day Street, Edward Street and Station Road may operate under one-way traffic control.
The budget for the project is $6.3 million. The contractor delivering the works is Northern Pipe and Civil Limited and the designer is Water Engineering Consultants Limited.
